Habitat for Humanity El Salvador – 2011 Navidad en Acción (Christmas in Action) Handover Ceremony
Guadalupe, El Salvador – 2011. This Habitat build project was Habitat El Salvador’s Navidad en Acción (Christmas in Action) blitz build consisting of six houses in Guadalupe which is a small village located east of San Salvador near the city of San Vicente. There were several volunteer teams from Canada involved in this build along with many local volunteers from schools, churches and other groups, plus outside contractors for roofing and window work. Although none of the six houses was fully completed at the end of the blitz build week there was a formal ceremony to hand over the houses to their new owners.
The ceremony involved lots of speeches thanking all the volunteers and everyone else in sight and the owners were each presented with a key and a bible and a ribbon was cut to open the first house. It was a very emotional ceremony for all the families and volunteers.
